What is the difference between redaction and overlaying?

Redaction permanently deletes content and cannot be recovered; overlaying only places a mask over the content, and the underlying data still exists. Redaction provides true secure deletion.

Can redaction be undone?

No. Redaction is permanent. Please be sure to keep a backup of the original document in case you need the unredacted version.

What content can be redacted?

Text, images, and page areas can be redacted. Select the content to redact, and the tool will permanently remove it from the document.

What is the quality of the redacted document?

Redacted areas are replaced with black or white blocks, surrounding content remains unchanged, and the rest of the document quality is unaffected.

How to ensure thorough redaction?

This tool uses the pdf-lib library to truly delete content, not just overlay it. Redacted content cannot be recovered by text extraction tools.
